IATL’s Restorative Justice Initiative supplies its members with tools to implement, or enhance existing, restorative practices in their communities. Tools include sample laws and policies, educational materials, persuasive research and data, and training materials regarding restorative practices. The Academy’s Restorative Justice Initiative and Anti-Trafficking Coalition work in tandem to equip restorative justice facilitators with the training necessary to identify victims of trafficking and educate youth on trafficking issues with the goal of preventing vulnerable youth from being trafficked.

What is Restorative Justice?
In contrast to the often more punitive and expensive traditional criminal justice approach, Restorative Justice is a theory of justice that focuses on acknowledging and repairing harm caused by the criminal justice system. It includes building relationships through a cooperative process that includes all stakeholders and transforming the traditional relationships between individuals, communities, and their governments. Accountability is fundamental to restorative justice.
